为什么要保护野生动物？保护野生动物就是保护人类自己，就是为了人类的利益和发展，人也好，动物也好，植物也好，所有的生命，都共同生活在一个生态的有机统一体之中，生态就好比是我们的巢，我们的绿色家园，我们的诺亚方舟。不保护野生动物，这个生态统一体就不会受到保护，人类的家园也就会受到威胁。譬如人类发明了农药，这似乎是保护人的一个成果，但从生态来看，它开创了一个污染环境的时代，不仅害了动物、植物，害了生态，破坏了人的家园，实际上是害了人。

但是由于环境的恶化，人类的乱捕滥猎和偷猎，各种野生动物的生存正在面临着各种各样的威胁。近100年，由人类造成的物种灭绝的速度已超过了自然灭绝速度的100倍，现在每天都有100多种生物从地球上消失。我国也已经有10多种哺乳类动物灭绝，还有20多种珍稀动物面临灭绝。而它们的灭绝会导致许多可被利用的自然资源的消失，还会导致许多有助于农作物战胜恶劣气候的基因归于消失，甚至引起新的瘟疫，由此所造成的损失是我们永远也无法挽回的。
